Interesting blurb from the Euge today in the Ottawa Citizen:
"A lot of this is not driven by the individuals," Melnyk said in an interview on the Fan 590. "Hockey people know who I am talking about. ... Ninety-nine per cent of the players you speak to are good people. They work in a community. They work hard. They want to score and they want to win, but there are other influences in their lives, and you've got to grin and bear it. It's going to happen. You always wish it didn't, but you may as well click your heels three times and want to go to Kansas in the Wizard of Oz if you don't believe it's going to happen to you."
Cue the massive speculation on what the hell this means.

I've read that it's a proxy for a fight on NMC/NTCs between the PA and the NHL.
In this scenario, Melnyk is referring to the PA, that they are influencing Dany to keep exercising the power that his NMC. At least, I think that's it.
I think, though, that he is referring to agents, and how they bring acrimony to the negotiation process, interfere with hockey business, play dirty (by going to the media to apply pressure), etc.
Duff:
I read somewhere it was endorsements...how about the West coast lure of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll...or the little woman wants to see the bright lights and run with the jet set...
I'm guessin' that it was that c&ck s&ck*r Barry telling Dany: "Big Boy, your a laid back, West Coast kinda guy and we could promote you, son, these are your kind of people, you belong out here.
OR
This is not between the NHLPA and the NHL...
This is one not so "Super" agent, who is the leader but is on his own on this one, who has negotiated a multi million dollar no movement contract for his franchise player and now wants to see if he can dictate to the Sens and the rest of the league where his man will play and how he will be coached and played in the future.
Nake no mistake, the players run the bench in the NHL, if they don't your team does not succeed ("Scotty just opened the gate and let us play!" Guy Lafleur and that was 35 years ago and it has not changed)however this is taking it too far...I blame this "Creative" can be distructive BARRY...he should be ruined over this. Now here is an ENIGMA for the 6th Sens.
Melnyk loves a good fight, even when he can't win. Look back at how he fought with the Board of Biovail and lost. How he fought the Ontario Securities Commission. How he fought Jeff Hunt over a sport stadium and lost... How he fought Muckler over the Gary Roberts issue, fired him after he took us to the finals, then replced him with the guy who took us to the basement. Maybe the NHLPA is not a fight he should pick. LOL! The guy just doesn't win much...
